Here we go again
From midnight last night a two week quarantine has been re imposed by all four home nations on people returning from mainland Spain. Foreign office advice has been changed to " do not travel unless necessary" meaning that your travel insurance may not be valid for any trips to Spain.
I think people will be up in arms about this as Andalucia hasn't been too bad compared to other parts of Spain.

But who do we go up in arms to? We were quite upset to hear the news....more flipping forms to complete! As you say Robert, Andalucia has been doing okay but it's the time of year when folk travel between municipalities etc. People are pretty good here about face masks but social distancing is an anathema to many! Our daughter and family are due out this week and they are still deliberating as they have a business to run when they return. And I won't be able to visit my elderly Mum..👵👵👵😢😢😢......again. Awful to feel so impotent but we'll do as we are told......again. Keep safe my Benalite friends, Kind regards, BT.

Due to the health conditions my wife has we have cancelled our September/October visit, it's just not worth the risk. We had planned 2 visits this year, but health comes first which means that (hopefully) there will always be more carefree times to visit next year.

I did read that there were a couple of reported cases in Benalmadena over the past day or so and no doubt there will be more as the spaniards come to their holiday homes from some of the badly affected areas, but to have no deadline to get home before isolation is imposed it pretty bad. What about the people who need to go back to work? I haven't been out since last October because of health reasons and can't see me getting out at all this year. Anyone want to buy an apartment LOL??!!

I was so shocked hearing the news of quarantine last night, not sure we had heard correctly had to scan forums to check
Son and family flew out to Marbella this morning in spite of the quarantine, they are lucky in working from home, although Grandson cannot go back to his little job at Sainsburys for what will be 3 weeks now..so not sure he will return as Uni will be starting in September...
Just had call from family to say all okay there, they are not going to the beach, as I mentioned it will be full of Spanish down for the weekend, think they may stay around the pool area and the hotel offers all they will need..
This news came so quickly not giving folks any chance to make arrangements to fly home, feel so sad now folks who have to lose time from work, after waiting so long for UK to lift restrictions, then slapping them on again!!
The last 2 weeks we were there when Spain opened up to movement, it was sadly the Spanish down from the hills who didn't wear masks, and it now looks like Northern Spain have illegal immigrant boats arriving daily especially on coast line of Murcia, police cannot keep up with their arrivals, but just reading the one's that were picked up and tested were positive for Covid so its just going to spread now as more arrive undetected !!
B.T so sorry this means you do not get to see your dear Mom, after waiting so long, when do you and hubby return to UK ?..
Is your daughter still going out or putting off visit until later on? although we do not know how long quarantine will last for this time, and now Sanchez is angry with Boris and may well put UK on list of quarantine, what a disaster and all it needs is for folks to wear a mask, keep distance and wash hands!!
Sorry to read FF you have had to cancel your hols, and Alison sad you have been in now for 9months, a few weeks in the sun would do you good, but in current circumstances health comes first...but hope all this settles soon, I am just so lost for words at the moment..xx

Beach packed today. All Spanish and no social distancing. HOWEVER... I am not going to make any negative remarks re the Spanish as the behaviour of the Brits in tourist spots in the UK has been shameful. We return to the UK tomorrow and it took nearly an hour to complete the health forms for the two of us!! FF.....I think you have made the right decision. And it is so so so hot! Alison ....keep safe and well.I wish you good health. We too have an apt for sale!!! Not really, still love it here but this *******pandemic is a ******!!! Fond regards to all, BT. X

Home in chilly Essex! After all the time spent filling in the forms and being told they would be checked by Immigration at Heathrow, nada!! Some (plenty of) people on our flight hadn't bothered to complete the forms as they intended to do it on arrival in the UK, so they will not be quarantining. A mockery of the new FCO guidance. 😬😬😬😬 Our daughter and family are due to fly out tomorrow and still don't know if they will go poor darlings! Spoke to some British bar owners on Sunday who could not believe the quarantine rule and described it as yet another nail in the coffin for their businesses. Take care everyone, wishing you all well, Fond regards, BT. X

Glad to hear you got back safely BT. What a dilema for your daughter and family, it's a worrying time. What concerns me is that now is the time of year that thousands of spanish from Madrid, Barselona etc descend on Benalmadena to their holiday homes. It may not be quite as safe as it was when there weren't many holidaymakers around. I think a lot of British bar owners are going to have to give up by the end of the year. Many hardly scrape a living at the best of times. Benalmadena will be very different this time next year.

I liked the original "Quaranteen" header for this thread! We arrived back in our home at 10pm Monday and had a telephone call at 10am Tuesday from a Government official to check that we are in quarantine. Of course we were, England winning a Test Match against the Windies! Some health questions and she asked if we know the symptoms of Covid-19!!! Apparently they will call every 2-3 days and do a home visit if there's no reply. I will be home in the garden.....it's gone wild in 10 days but I have lots of peppers, tomatoes and runner beans!!
Alison, I do agree with your comments about bar owners. Lots of the smaller places are still closed as are many shops along the Paseo. Palia la Roca (Hotel La Roca) is not opening this year and the large sports bar opposite it (Joe's???) was closed. The original purpose of this post was to remind returners to the UK to stick to the quarantine rules...........big fines if you don't. Sorry to ramble! Keep well and I hope loved ones and friends in Benal keep safe as I'm sure they will if they stick to the rules. Fond regards to all ( nice to see a post from Norman and Mary!) BT.

So they do follow up then B.T, but if folks do not fill in 'online' form, then security at airport do not ask to see forms, then no track on them if anyone falls sick on their flight!! so silly..
Hope your Moms okay B.T and you do get to see her in two weeks, my family come home this weekend, and we were due to go down to Kent on Sunday for 3weeks, having days out with G/children, but now not possible for 14days
As you say ladies I feel some bar's in Benal will not make it if this quarantine goes on for a long time, many bar owners mentioned they were waiting for the Brits to arrive, and now Jet2 want to take them home on Monday, so no time to put euro's in tills..im sure it will be a very different Benal next year, if we get out there, but staying optimistic..
Have a good weekend looks like great temps in UK, and I would not like to be in Benal although I love it..with Terral winds due and temps of 40c+ xx

Rosebush, you are absolutely right about the UK health forms. Loads of people on our BA flight knew nothing about them and the crew told them to complete them on-line on arrival or at Immigration. No-one at Immigration to check the forms so those people just sailed through. Sorry you cannot get down to Kent to see your grandchildren and family but optimistically it won't be too long before you can. Daughter in Benal with her family and she feels safe there....but hot!!! Have a good weekend wherever my fellow Benalites are! Fond regards to all, BT. X

First week of quarantine over!! Thank the Lord for cricket!! Daughter and family in Benalmadena are loving it but finding the heat oppressive. And she used to live there! Rosebush, I hope your family returned safely from Spain and are healthy. Fond regards to all, BT.

My apologies for what may appear to be my insensitivity. I posted on the forum this morning before clicking on to the news and read about the horrific explosion in Beirut. Absolutely awful and I hope no-one has been affected, either directly or indirectly. BT.
