This winter we stayed in Nerja for a change but we did come to Arroyo for a couple of long weekends to see some great friends (you know who you are). I just wanted to tell you all about our journey home on Friday .......
After having 2 flights cancelled (thanks to Ryanair - who else?) - we ended up overstaying our 90 day limit and became illegal immigrants for 3 days. However, after a taxi to Malaga Airport (65€), BA flights to Heathrow (£300), another taxi across London to King'sX (£70), train to Newcastle (courtesy of BA who changed our connection flight time to BEFORE the time of the first flight to Heathrow! Duh!) Yet another taxi from Newcastle Central Station to home (£35). Antigen test in Nerja (€55). 2nd and 8th day PCR home tests (£420) which haven even arrived yet, and because of Easter post probably won't arrive until at least Tuesday so it's going to take our isolation time up to 15 days by the time we get our results which will HOPEFULLY be negative. That's put at least another £945 onto our winter break just to get home which we hadn't bargained for when we left in December. It was a very stressful day but home safe and sound, but I feel so sorry for anyone who has returned to the UK and having to go into hotel isolation and THEN having to make their own way home. My heart goes out to them! Don't know if we'll even bother next year - wait a minute, what am I saying? Of course we will - we'll be back to Arroyo - we love it!!! Only next time we'll make sure we are home well within the 90 days (which, incidentally, it wasn't even mentioned at the airport that we were 3 days over our welcome - I was getting myself all het up and stressed for nothing). Everything at both Malaga and Heathrow Airports went smoothly and without a hitch. Very well organised at both ends, as long as all your "paperwork" is in order. So make sure it is. Check and double check because it's those with insufficient paperwork that are causing the queues. Having said that the staff at both airports did a sterling job, were very courteous and kept their cool in what must be a very difficult and stressful time for everyone. Well done them!
