Hi all. Those of you who have been following my "experiences" will know that this has not been the perfect Benal break. Yesterday it got worse. My husband and I went for our antigen tests prior to leaving on Sunday and he has tested positive and is therefore in quarantine for 10 days. However to put that into perspective, friends who have not been to their apartment for over a year due to Covid arrived in Benal on Wednesday. After a day meeting up with old friends they went back to their apartment where our lovely friend K died suddenly. His wife is being supported by truly genuine people but my heart goes out to her. I cannot even give her a hug. Of some comfort is that he passed away in his beloved Benalmadena.
Take care all and fond regards, BT.

B.T what dreadful news, I am so sorry for your friend she must be in shock at what happened and will need so much support, so glad she has genuine friends around her Is your hubby okay does he have any symptoms? was he told he needs to stay in for 10days or can he re test after 5, the test could have been a false positive? have you been able to get in touch with all the known company you shared during last few days, or places visited, they will need to make customers aware.. So sorry this has not been a good trip for you... Take care and keep us posted..xxx

We have notified as many folk as we can, most of whom just shrug and say "Okay". Hubbie does have flu-like symptoms and cannot taste food or wine so we know it's the real thing! No day 5 tests, just quarantine. We also have home tests. Glad we are in our own apartment and have our books! Stocked up in the supermarket today and Boo in Boo'z Bar (opposite Hotel la Roca) provided us with takeaway light meals last night, bless her! The worst aspect of it all is that it's my Mum's 90th birthday bash next week which I was organizing and cooking for. Poor daughter now has to take it on but I'm trying to recruit folk to help out!!!
My friend is doing okay and keeping occupied by finding and sending photos and videos of her darling Hubbie. He is flown home on Monday and my friend follows on Tuesday. Amazing how efficient and fast it has all been. Thanks for all your words of sympathy and support. Fond regards, BT.

Thank you Robert, Monty and Rosebush. Our friend was flown to the UK today.
Quarantine is not getting easier!!! My husband seems to be improving very slightly but still has the main symptoms. Bless him he doesn't complain! Boo'z Bar has been fabulous in providing us with evening meals. There is a new fish and chip shop on the main road near to the entrance to mini-golf. It's called Oceans and run by an English couple and the food is superb for a chippie in Spain! We had a takeaway from there too!! Fish freshly cooked and it appears to be busy. Normally we eat only Spanish cuisine but this met our needs! The weather has been fabulous folks! Still very hot during the day and pleasant at night. Very quiet on the streets however. Had some lovely garden birds on our terrace today! Haven't a clue what they are but the size of a robin, black with a white chest and a long pointed beak. Any Spanish birders out there?? Saw a vulture circling the other day which was a treat. I feel I am going on a bit so wishing you all well! Take care and fond regards, BT.

Hello all! Still surviving quarantine.....just! Friends have been amazing with loads of offers of help which restores faith in humankind! So far the only help we have needed is a newspaper brought to us daily by a super friend! Still feel humbled after the death of our friend.
The weather is fabulous and I even had to take a fan onto our terrace today! Lots of folk have the "Costa cough" due to the poor air quality locally. Many speculate that it is due to the volcanic eruption in La Palma but I have read no scientific evidence in support of this.
I have been busy clearing out cupboards which has been therapeutic. Who needs eight casserole dishes and eight saucepans anyway!!! I threw a load of old kitchenware in the local bin yesterday and an hour later it was all gone! Today I put 20 old books in the bin on my way to the supermarket. 20 minutes later I saw a guy half way into the bin and with my old books piled up at the side of the bin!! The good stuff is going to the charity shop tomorrow. Next clear out is old videos!!! I doubt if they have been played for 15 years! Before you ask......it's not me! I am married to a hoarder!! October tomorrow. Do I post a new thread entitled October holiday 2021 or continue my sorry September saga? Still no identification of my Spanish garden bird! I'm going on again! Can you tell I'm not getting out much?!! Rosebush, thank you for your private message. X Fond regards to all. Take care and keep safe. BT.

Quite a week you have had BT. I hope circumstances improve for you both.
I've been missing Benalmadena so much that I attempted to make battered aubergine with the black honey (Bar Espana style). 8/10 for taste but 5/10 for presentation!! Very messy to make so lots of clearing up.
Anyway we have booked to fly out late next Wednesday for upto 2 weeks - between hospital appointments. The Manchester weather has turned for the worse this week andis another good reason to make the trip.

Good to know you are trying out Spanish dishes at home Chawky. Prawns pil-pil is so easy! Chawky, unless someone beats you to it the October Trip thread must be yours.....I am not supposed to be here but after calls from our daughters about the weather I'm pleased I am! Husband tested negative today!😀 We are still following quarantine rules until he has tested negative once more and then we will only go for a brief walk for some much needed exercise. Finished my clear outs! Such a relief although hoarder Hubbie still won't throw as much as I want to!!
Beautiful day again today. Blue sky and no hint of a breeze.
Take care all, Fond regards, BT.

Chawky great to hear you have flights booked for Wednesday, sorry though you / or Mrs C have hospital appts, but hoping the fresh sea air will do you both good..Look forward to your reports. B.T so pleased hubby has tested negative hope next test is the same so you can both enjoy a long walkabout for a few days, or until you travel home, my advice unless you have anything pending stay there the UK weather is horrible, keep checking the Fuengirola web cams to see the sunshine Had to smile when you mention all the you stuff left by skip had gone very quickly, the skip at top of hill next to San Fran has bin dippers there frequently, even inside the skip but better passed on than to land fill. Have a good weekend everyone...and B.T enjoy your freedom xx

Another negative test yesterday so we remain optimistic! We have discussed staying on but we miss our daughters and of course my Mum! Husband misses his sport and sporting friends so we will return on Wednesday, negative test permitting! Hearing stories of people going for their antigen test and testing positive and having to stay in quarantine hotels. At least we have our apartment. What happens next week when folk do not have to take the test prior to flying home I wonder?
A beautiful morning here in Benalmadena. Lots of garden birds about and most of the bougainvillea is still flowering, apart from in our complex as the gardener (or butcher as I call him!) has hacked it all back to a brown unsightly hedgerow. I'm sure he knows what he's doing................
Fond regards to all, BT.

Another beautiful sunrise this morning! They have been quite stunning. Yesterday husband and I took a picnic to the beach and socially distanced from everyone despite his third negative test in a row. Tonight he has his mandatory test at the clinic so keeping everything crossed! There was some rain yesterday evening which lasted for less than two minutes! And the evening was a little cooler but still comfortable. There are a few Brits around but not as many as would be here in a "normal" year. Hope the packing is going well Chawky! Have a good flight and a lovely holiday. Fond regards to all, BT.

B.T great news hubby's last 3 tests have all been negative, fingers crossed for official one this evening Bet it was nice getting out for a walk yesterday, i did hear there was a few minutes of rain, but glad to hear its still warm out there, which is good news for Chawky & Mrs C.. As you mention no need for Covid test from today when returning to UK i was hoping Boris would leave that one alone, so we know anyone coming into UK is Covid free, but drop the day 2 test when home, this one seems silly, you could have Covid when you arrive and not know it, move around freely for days prior to test then find you are positive!!! Shame your gardener is a butcher with the bougainvillea, its such a beautiful plant and should be left until all flowers have died away, before pruning back dead wood Maybe if day 2 rule is lifted next week, more families will fly over for half term, but airlines do tend to double the seats prices during this period so the resorts have to hope for Xmas visitors, but then lots of hotels will have closed hopefully 2022 will see more of a normal life.. Post how hubby's test goes, I'm sure your daughters and your dear mom will be looking forward to seeing you both safely back home.. Chawky bet your bags are packed Take Care..xx Another negative test yesterday so we remain optimistic! We have discussed staying on but we miss our daughters and of course my Mum!
