On Thursday morning my sister in law wasn't feeling too well do after breakfast we ( they ) decided that I would drive them to Carihuela so they could explore. As soon as she got there she miraculously recovered and shot off towards the shops with Mrs L. We have a good walk around and stopped of at El Horno for refreshments. Back to the shops again and ended up in a small British bar facing the RIU hotel for a late lunch. Back home for a lie down before getting a bus back to Arroyo for dinner. We started with drinks it Tita Yoli then moved on to Taverna DiDi near Burger King for dinner. We had several of their bbq'd meat options which were excellent as we're the deserts. Our final stop was the wine bar on the corner in Garcia Lorca for a nightcap.
Friday was an early start as we were going to Gibraltar ( well I guess we really had to ). We stopped off at Castellar Zoo on the way. Castellar is a rescue centre were a lot of the animals are used to humans so you are allowed to handle some of them. So after feeding various types of monkeys, stroking baby Lemurs having snakes around our necks and parrots sitting on our heads and shoulders and holding birds of prey it was on to Gib. We drove in , had passports checked and got parked at the cable car. Off to the Trafalgar pub for a late lunch before taking a taxi tour of the rock. We have done the cable car the last few times we've visited so we wanted to show my brother the siege tunnels. At £35 per head it was more expensive than the cable car but we saw so much more.Everyone was suitable impressed with the views and of course the apes. We took the Toll road down which cost around €10.60 so we drove the coast road back. There really wasn't a lot of difference, time wise which was surprising as we left Gib around 5pm . Everyone was exhausted by the time we got home so dinner was a carry out from King of Curries for them and from the Water Margin for us. Last day tomorrow so might just have a lie in.🤣🤣🤣

Our passports were asked for going into Gib but the guy just glanced at them and handed them back. On exit the Spanish customs officer asked for passports, then asked if we were residents. Upon answering no, the passports were stamped and handed back. Took about 20/25 minutes of queueing to reach the Spanish customs.
For our last day my brother and his wife went to Arroyo shopping for presents and the boss and I went on to Yucas for a drink and light lunch. We jumped on a bus back into Arroyo after lunch and eventually stopped in Luisa's bar in the gamonal area. We had a gin and waited on my brother and wife joining us. We were undecided where to eat so had another drink when they joined us. The owner Luisa (or Lulu)and her partner were very friendly and the bar was lovely so we decided just to stay there for dinner.
There was a good selection on the menu including a 300g sirloin steak for €19.95 so three of us choose that. Several other options were not available and they had to run to a nearby shop to buy sprite for our drinks plus she was a little over attentive so I got the impression that things were tight. The food was a little disappointing and certainly not worth €19.95, especially my brother's steak which was half the size of the others and very thin. So typical of him he complained and the meal was changed for a Hunters chicken which kept him happy. We also received a free round of drinks with extra vino for brother and a nice shot to end the evening all on the house Things were a little bit awkward but to be fair to Luisa, she did try very hard to make amends.
She has been there since May and has spent a lot of money doing the bar up obviously putting in a lot of time and effort. There were only four other people in all evening so I'm sure she was glad to see us as our bill was over €100. By the time we left my brother and her were best friends. We left her a €10 tip and everyone was happy. To be honest apart from the steak being over priced ( or undersized ) it was a perfect evening so it certainly won't put me off going back next visit. We got the last bus home and had an early night. The taxi arrived at 08.10am and off we went. We had to wait for 20 minutes before we were allowed to join the queue for bag drop. That took around 20 mins then another 15 at security. Waited 15 minutes on the gate being announced then straight to passport control. There were long queues but they kept moving and we were through in around 20 mins. Then straight on the plane. Chinese and a nice cup of tea this evening and back to work in the morning.😭😭😭. We had a busy fortnight but only because we wanted to show my brother and his wife as much as possible. We have booked again for February which will be at a much slower pace 🤣 although there'll be a few jobs to do around the apartment.😭😭😭

Many thanks for your excellent travelogue Robert. I really enjoyed reading it! Your trip to Gib sounded relatively straightforward thank goodness. We did the siege tunnels a few years ago and were very impressed. Was the £35 a tour including the tunnels?? Still don't know when we will be back to Benal. Changed our November flights as still no word about my passport although my husband got his within days! If my passport does arrive soon I think my husband will be a keyboard warrior (or worrier!) and on to easyJet! Still need a new water tank in the apartment. Hope you have settled back into NI weather and work! Thanks again. Fond regards, BT.

Robert nice to read your transit through Malaga airport was quick, have seen some very long queues shown on F.B and waits of more than 2hrs think maybe its down to luck, if loads of flights in or out at same time and no extra staff on desks its going to happen! Hopefully we all get our next planned holidays and Covid cases slow down, its a bit worrying at the moment ! we are trying to book our booster jabs, but no luck so far our G.P service keeps telling us "we will contact you" so just waiting.. Robert have you checked your Feb flight to see how many passengers are on board, on ours only 6 so far, so not sure if the flight will go ahead or Jet2 will do extra pickup elsewhere? x

Yes the tour fee included entry to both the tunnels and St Michael's Cave. It was £35 or €40. They weren't busy so we didn't haggle but I'm seen them offer trips cheaper in the summer when it's busy and there are long queues for the cable car.
On arrival in Malaga it was terrible. Long queues and no staff directing foot traffic. People were arriving and pushing in to the queues causing friction. It was very badly organised. On the return we were at the airport approx two hrs before. Had to wait 20 mins on being allowed to join the bag drop queue. By the time we'd dropped cases off, gone through security and passport control the flight was boarding so there was no time at all for anything to eat at the airport . I though I'd saved money but then got stung on the plane 😭😭😭
