If you use the local bus service a lot then it`s a good idea to get yourself a bus card. You can buy them in any Tabaco shop for €1.80. Simply load them with some money and hold it on the scanner each time you use the bus. It reduces the cost of each journey by 30% and you get a printed receipt to tell you the balance left on your card. You can top it up again when required at any local Tabaco shop. The card doesn`t expire so can be used again and again if you`re a regular visitor. Multiple family members can also use the same card. You just scan the card once for each person in your party. A single card can be used for up to fifteen people at a time and can be used for the services between Malaga and La Cala including both Benalmádena and Mijas Pueblos. The following link is a free download to the Consorcio Malaga App which will give you all the local bus and train routes, stops, maps and timetables for local transport. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=es.ctmam.movilAlso this is the newest Avanza App that covers the same routes but gives you ' live ' arrival times at the various stops. This App is only for the bus routes and not the trains. play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.geoactio.portilloavanzaThere is also a second discounted rate if you transfer between buses as outlined in thde picture below.

Thank you Robert. We've had the green card for a couple of years and it has saved us a fortune! Handy to have the bus app as I have wasted so much time at various bus stops, especially near Avenida de la Roca!! Kind regards to all, BT.

B.T we use that bus stop for the M120 into Fuengirola if its around 10am, after that its always full so we walk back up to next stop or the tourist office. We have had our card for many years and have saved so much over the time, well worth anyone there for a few weeks getting one..x

Hi Robert. 1. Do you have to load the card with round amounts (E10 or E20) or can I do 11 euros as that would be all I need? 2. There would be 5 of us. Do I ask the driver for 5 tickets or do we pass the card back each time & each ask for one ticket? 3.Do children aged 4 have to pay or what is the age limit? Thanks in anticipation. We have been coming for 10 years & have never needed a bus (we walk for miles or go by train) but our grandchildren are coming over at half term & want to go to Mijas Pueblo. JSB

Don’t know the answer to question 1 as I’ve only ever seen people topping up in multiples of €5.
The first person on the bus should present the card 5 times. The driver will soon ‘correct’ you if you’re making a mess of it.
A 4 year old is a full fare as this particular bus company states that children under 4 are free.

The minimum top up is €5 so I don't see why you can't just put €11 on it. The card never runs out so any remaining credit can be used on your next visit
Tell the driver you want to pay for five people and give him the card. He will take a shortcut and be able to do it quicker than you.
The child age for free travel is 3 years so over 3s pay.If you use the train then it's free up to age six.

We did as Robert said when 4 of use using one card, the driver took my card hit a button on his key pad, held my card down and it churned out 4 tickets, however some drivers are sour faced and do leave you to do it yourself x
