Do you just ask at a station for a Tarjeta Dorada, show your ID and hand over the 6 Euros and receive it there and then or is it more complicated than that ? Forms, photos, wait to receive etc ? We're only here for 2 months but use the train quite a lot so would benefit from the discount, but depends if you have to wait to get it. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers Nigel

Collect and fill out a form from a manned train station, return it with a reduced size copy of your passport photograph page and a couple of passport sized photographs. They will tell you when to return for your card, they usually say it takes upto 21 days. I have not personally applied for a card this is what i have read.

Don't know if the system has changed but we bought ours at Arroyo Station (they sent us away for an hour as it was so busy!) and our cards were handed over there and then. Hope the system hasn't changed.......why do they insist on mending something that ain't broke! Any info will be appreciated by lots of Forum members! BT.

If you already have a Tajeta Dorada , then you need to upgrade to a Personalised photo card. You need to get an application form from a crewed station, and get a photocopy of your passport, this can be done by Ramon in PC4U (50 cents) at the base of the Diaroma blocks just over the road from the station, near The Pub. You also need a passport size photo.
Fill in the form, attach the photo and copy of passport, use Prit-Stick NOT STAPLES !! The new Photo card will cost 2 Euros, If you have a paper TD, take that with you, the station personnel will use the details off it. If not, TAKE YOUR PASSPORT . IF YOU HAVE NOT HAD A TD before you will have to pay an additional 6 Euros annual fee. BUT Any unexpired time on the paper tTD will be ok, but you need to renew when it expires.
Take the card back to the station, hand it in, pay your 2 Euros, they will give you a receipt with your name written on it. That helps to find your card when you return . Ours took 6 days , they said 7 - 10 days .
THE NEXT PHASE IS HOW TO USE IT IN THE MACHINE !!! GOOD LUCK

Thanks for replies folks, much appreciated. One more thing does anyone know if the application form is online ? I've had a look round the Renfe website but couldn't see anything, just thought it would save time when I get here. Thanks again Nigel

We got our photo cards (linked to TD) in October but our Tarjeta Dorada was due to expire later this month (we will be back in Benal by then). Do any residents know if we still have to renew the TD, if so do we just renew that or do we have to fill in forms for a new photo card as well?? I have the forms, photos & photocopy passport just in case.

Yes, just go to a manned kiosk, You need the Personalised Tarjeta Dorada, and either your old paper Tarjeta, this has your passport number on it, or your passport, and of course 6 Euros per person. We did ours last month, no problems

Thanks for the info, sounds easy enough. Can’t wait till Thursday to be back, weather in N.England is awful (wind & rain) at present. Hope airport ticket machines are queueless now!

John will you post if queue's are still evident, we are not out until next month, when it will probably be me holding up the queue xx
I have my notes which read:-
Choose destination, press no to question have you got a card, pay, then hopefully that's it, think at this stage I can book for 2, so get 2 cards at same time.
I do know our next train journey we have to purchase 'single' travel using each card, sounds simple so really hope it is .x

Hi Rosebush, Not much to report on queues unfortunately. When we were due to arrive the airport was covered by horrendous thunderstorm & diverted to Seville. Two hours later we flew back to Malaga, first landing attempt aborted & we climbed right back into the storm. Much turbulence and bang flash lighting strike later we eventually landed at the second attempt. By this time the airport and station were virtually deserted so there was no queues!
Quite an exciting experience for me (not for some others) but have to say that Jet2.pilot & cabin staff absolutely brilliant throughout.

Hi johnsb. Wow, what a journey. I don't think my heart would have survived that flight experience! We had been following the weather in Spain and felt sad for the loss of life. Hope you are enjoying your holiday. We arrive on Thursday, hopefully without lightning strikes and diversions! BT.
