Sorry to be the one to start this thread but am wondering what the latest is in Benal and the wider Costa del Sol around this. I'm due to come out at the end of the month, with my in-laws due to come out next week. Anything reported locally to Benal? Foreign Office so far seem ok with people travelling to Spain although some more Northern and Central regions look like they're starting to take steps to cancel events etc. What's everyone's thoughts?

I googled "Corona virus in Spain" and found a site which maps out where the virus is. Mainly Madrid and Barcelona and no cases in Malaga region. But of course this may change! We are due to fly out next week and will definitely be going!
Don't apologise for starting this thread! The Forum has a good reputation for passing on reliable information. Rosebush has reported a shortage of sanitiser. I would also advise that you don't touch anything on offer from the Looky Looky Men (LLM) who use the bushes as their loo and don't wash their hands. Yuk! Keep well, BT.

The Irish Association has cancelled the St Patrick’s day march and Sunset Beach has cancelled a concert but that’s all I’m aware of. Haven’t seen anyone wearing a face mask in this area and the shops still have plentiful supplies of loo rolls.

It can only be your decision nicke. My thoughts are that you are more likely to catch something at the airport or on the plane, but there will always be a risk wherever you go. I have just cancelled, but I have health problems that would make me more vulnerable

So sorry you have had to cancel your trip Alison. Thanks to Neil and Robert for your updates. We're just waiting for advise from the FCO or easyJet and still plan to go on Tuesday. A friend has suggested we could self isolate in Mare Nostrum or Mullarkeys! Keep well. BT.

Interesting the developments so far - FCO recommends only essential travel to those more northern regions, Malaga etc still ok according to FCO. Here's an interactive map, that perhaps BT mentioned earlier www.rtve.es/noticias/20200313/mapa-del-coronavirus-espana/2004681.shtmlSo far Madrid has around 2000 cases and 56 deaths. Malaga has to date 97 cases and no deaths according to this site.

Thanks for the update Nick.A worrying rise in the number of cases in Malaga region but fortunately no fatalities yet. In my area we have our first fatality. The person had serious other conditions. My Mum's care home is in "lock down" so we can't visit her but we do understand the reasons.
I have subscribed to the Foreign Office travel alerts for Spain (just go onto their website and follow the instructions) and will receive an e-mail each time new advice is published. Sorry if you are all aware!! Take care, Kind regards to all, BT.

You mean your area in the UK BT? My 101 year old grandma's care home has closed for two weeks today too And my company - which is run from the US - has just closed all global offices so we're all working from home until the end of the month. Stay safe all Nick

First death in Benalmadena.
The victim, a 70-year-old man, had been admitted to the Xanit International Hospital in Benalmádena for about two months with previous pathologies. Covid-19 has further aggravated his health condition and he has finally died in the Intensive Care Unit of said hospital, where other patients with coronavirus are isolated.
